The endpoint for carbon dioxide captured by global CCS facilities is expected to change significantly by 2030, relative to current standings. In 2021, approximately 43 million metric tons of carbon dioxide (CO₂) were captured by CCS facilities, of which nearly three-quarters went towards enhanced oil recovery operations. By 2030, enhanced oil recovery would account for 20 percent of captured CO₂, while 66 percent would be stored deep underground in dedicated geological storage sites.
