In spring 2022, Italian authorities started administering a second booster shot of COVID-19 vaccines to the population in order to improve general protection against the virus. As of November 20, 2023, approximately 16.9 percent of the population over 12 years old had received the second booster vaccination. This statistic shows regional differences in these figures. Piedmont was the region achieving the highest booster vaccination coverage, with around 26.2 percent. Conversely, just 7.9 percent of citizens living in Calabria received a second booster shot.
