A total of 300,058 hectares were covered by permanent snow and glaciers across Peru in 2020. This represented an increase in comparison to the previous year, up from some 299,988 hectares. However, when compared to 1992 levels, figures experienced a slight decline. As of 2020, the total permanent snow and cover area across all South America stood at 3.89 million hectares.
