In 2023, a total of 785 people across Latin America and the Caribbean lost their lives due to climate change-related disasters. This represented a decline when compared to the previous year, down from 1,125 people. Since 1990, figures reached a record high in 1999, when a total of 31,000 people died due to storms, floods, fires and other natural disasters related to climate change.
