Ríkisútvarpið (RÚV) is Iceland's public-service broadcaster, supported by the government with subsidies of 5.1 billion Icelandic króna (2021) and additionally generating advertising revenue. Stripping the broadcaster of the possibility to generate such revenue has been widely discussed in Iceland. During a 2023 survey, 66 percent of responding marketing managers stated they supported RÚV's current position in the advertising market in Iceland. As many as 84 percent said they used RÚV as an ad medium.
