In 2022, the majority of tree cover loss in Malaysia was caused by commodity driven deforestation, with a total area of around 235 thousand hectares of tree cover loss. In the past three years, tree cover loss caused by commodities have been decreasing. By comparison, tree cover loss caused by forestry in 2022 amounted to around 12.4 thousand hectares.
