Sectoral GHG emissions projections under current policy in the U.S. 2035, by sector

Greenhouse gas emissions in the U.S. power sector are estimated to decline by between 45 and 74 percent from 2022 levels by 2035, under current policy. Meanwhile, the transportation sector - the largest source of emissions in 2022 - would see reductions of 15 to 32 percent. Buildings and the agriculture and waste sectors would see less dramatic reductions over this period, with emissions from the latter remaining mostly flat. It is projected that industry will become the most polluting sector in the U.S. by 2035, with emissions ranging between 1.3 and 1.7 MtCO₂e.

The U.S. has set the target of reducing emissions by 50 to 52 percent below 2005 levels by 2030.
