A survey conducted in May 2022 revealed that 39 percent of Indonesian Muslim consumers shopped online at least once a week. Meanwhile, 23 percent of them stated that they made online purchases at least once a month.
Spending patterns in the halal industry
Indonesia, known as the country with the largest Muslim population in the world, is one of the leading countries in terms of halal food consumption and the use of halal cosmetics. In 2020, Indonesian Muslim consumers spent a total of approximately 184 billion U.S. dollars on halal products and services. Looking at current spending patterns, consumer spending on halal products has the potential to continue to increase in the coming years. Among the frequently used halal personal care and beauty products were toothpaste, shampoo, facial cleansers, and deodorants.
