Value of banking operations in Portugal 2018-2023, by type of payment instrument
In Portugal, the value of banking operations increased during the considered period for all types of payment instruments. In 2023, there were almost 146 billion euros transacted as part of payment card operations. Direct debit instructions reached the value of 37 billion euros, surpassing only credit card operations. The highest value was reached by electronic credit transfers, which surpassed 1.5 trillion euros.
