Ranked alongside other European cities in 2022, Helsinki took the top spot for availabilty for space for walking and cycling, scoring 69 percent for space availability. Amsterdam followed closely, scoring 64 percent, and Copenhagen trailed closely with 63 percent.

Cities were scored on a set of indicators on a scale from zero to one hundred. For the category 'Space for people' the indicators included opportunity for walking and opportunity for cycling, as measured by the availability of dedicated infrastructure, and traffic congestion, which was measured by comparing travel time during peak time to uncongested periods.
