In Portugal, the number of bank payment cards amounted to more than 25 million in 2023. Debit cards outnumbered credit cards, which totaled 9.6 million in 2023, despite having surpassed 10 million in 2011. In 2023, debit cards were 23.3 million, an increase compared with the previous year.
