In a survey conducted in 2023 among New Zealanders on their views of tourism, around 89 percent of respondents indicated that they view tourism as good for the country. Overall, domestic tourism was viewed in a slightly more positive light than international tourism; nonetheless, international tourism was considered slightly more important to New Zealand's economy, with 92 percent of those surveyed perceiving international tourism as important for the economy.

- "Impact on well-being of NZ communities" (Very/mostly positive or positive/somewhat positive).
- "Impact on environment" (Very/mostly positive or positive/somewhat positive).
