In Portugal, in 2023, the total amount spent in purchases via points of sale (POS) corresponded to almost 71.3 billion euros. National cards were responsible for 62 billion euros in points-of-sale purchases, while foreign cards accounted for more than 9.2 billion euros. It was in mainland territory that POS purchases were the highest, totaling 67.5 billion euros.
