According to a study conducted in Nigeria in 2023, the majority of the respondents among the different age groups with no electricity meter at their houses reported paying for power via estimated billing and/or direct billing. For instance, around 60 percent of the respondents between 18 and 35 and 36 and 60 years old claimed to use that method. An even bigger share of over 70 percent of individuals over 61 had the same method of paying. On the other hand, the share using solar power was larger among the younger respondents. Overall, 43 percent of the respondents did not have a power meter at home.
