Share of healthcare payments in India 2020, by mode

In 2020, the majority of healthcare payments were either done through cash or paid out-of-pocket in India. On the contrary, 38 percent of healthcare expenditure was covered under government schemes. PMJAY (Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya) is is a government health insurance scheme that aims to provide free healthcare coverage to individuals with low income in the country. PMJAY accounts for less than five percent of the overall health expenditure.
