In 2022, according to a survey, Britain and Spain had the highest proportion of people, among other European countries, who walked as their main means of transportation for a one-mile distance, at a rate of 65 and 55 percent, respectively. The Netherlands had the lowest share of people who walked for short distances of about one mile, at a rate of 26 percent.

The source specifies each country sample consists of around 1,000 respondents in Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, mainland China, France, Germany, Great Britain, Italy, Japan, Spain, and the U.S. In Belgium, Chile, Colombia, Hungary, India, Malaysia, Mexico, Norway, the Netherlands, Peru, Poland, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, South Korea, Sweden, and Turkey, there were around 500 respondents.
