The amount of water consumed in Italy from the public supply network decreased between 2012 and 2022. In 2022, this figure amounted to approximately 4.6 billion cubic meters, down from 5.3 billion cubic meters in 2012. Although the total water inputs into the public water distribution system amounted to over eight billion cubic meters, over 40 percent of it was lost through pipe leakage.
