In 2023, over 38.4 thousand cases of Carbapenem-resistant enterobacteriaceae (CRE) were reported in South Korea. CRE is a bacterial infection resistant to antibiotics commonly used to treat severe bacterial infections, making it difficult to manage. This infection is most commonly encountered in hospitals and long-term care facilities with suboptimal hygiene and maintenance practices.
