Number of overweight children below the age of five in China 2012-2022

In 2022, around six million Chinese children under the age of five were overweight, representing a slight decrease from a decade ago. However, this drop in absolute numbers was the result of the sharp decline in the birth rate in the country, while the prevalence of being overweight in China continued to rise, thanks to an increasingly unhealthy dietary structure and a less active urban lifestyle.
