In 2022, the 40 global leading mining companies reported a total combined market capitalization of nearly 1.23 trillion U.S. dollars. In comparison to 2003, the total market cap of the largest mining companies worldwide has more than tripled. This growth in the miners' combined market cap has come about largely as a result of consolidation—over one-third of the top 40 mining companies have been involved in M&A megadeals between 2003 and 2022.
