As of 2022, the 27 member states of the European Union had a positive trade balance with all candidate countries and potential candidates for EU membership, except for with North Macedonia. Serbia was the accession country which the EU had the most positive balance with, exporting over 6 billion Euros more worth of goods to the south-eastern European country than it imported from it.

*Kosovo is administered under UN Security Council Resolution 1244/99. The state is recognized by 24 EU member states, but not by Spain, Greece, and Slovakia. Its status as an independent country is contested by Serbia.
Countries with blue bars are official candidates for membership of the European Union.
Countries with grey bars are potential future candidates who have been identified by the European Commission, but have not begun the process of negotiations with the EU.
Turkey is represented in red as negotiations between the EU and Turkey have been suspended since 2019, after a decision by the European Parliament due to issues with human rights protections and the rule of law.
