In 2023, Tunisia scored 53 points in the Global Expression Report (GxR). This was lower compared to the previous year when the country scored 57. Furthermore, the country saw a boost in freedom of expression in 2011, in line with the Tunisian revolution (Jasmine revolution) that took place at the end of 2010 and the beginning of 2011. However, the country has recently seen a dropping trend in GxR. GxR ranks countries based on the openness of the society, with a higher score being given to countries with more freedom of expression.
Global expression report (GxR) metric score in Tunisia from 2000 to 2023
The source adds the following information regarding the metric: The Global Expression Report’s metric (the GxR Metric) tracks freedom of expression across the world. In 161 countries, 25 indicators were used to create an overall freedom of expression score for every country, on a scale of 1 to 100 which places it in an expression category.
