In 2022, China was the world's leading exporter of office supplies, with an export value of about 5.32 billion U.S. dollars. That year, China accounted for about 29.4 percent of the global stationery and office supplies exports.

"The world's factory"

By 2022, approximately seven million stationery manufacturers were located in China. The low technical threshold and production costs allowed many small-scale factories to access the market. The previous year saw more than 23,000 registrations in China. As a result, the stationery industry in China is relatively decentralized, with no company achieving global prominence.

China’s stationery imports

In 2022, China imported nearly 689.1 million U.S. dollars-worth of stationery. The majority of stationery imported to China were from Japan, the United States, and the European Union. Stationery imported from abroad is often marketed as a premium product with higher quality materials and more modern designs.
