The country with the highest number of European Union Aviation Allowances (EUAA) auctioned or sold under the EU ETS in 2022 was Germany, at 587,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent (tCO₂e). Spain followed closely, with roughly 551,000 aviation carbon permits auctioned or sold. One allowance – or carbon credit – gives the holder the right to emit one metric ton of carbon dioxide or its equivalent.
