Population projection for National Capital Region (NCR) in India during 2021 was estimated to be more than 71 million people. The National Capital Territory of Delhi accounted for around 20 million people. The total population of NCR was estimated to reach around 89 million by 2031. NCR is an urban agglomeration centered around the national capital territory of Delhi and includes certain districts of neighboring states of Haryana, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh.
A recent categorization of this region into three categories has been devised which divides the region into Core National Capital Territory of Delhi, Central National Capital Region (CNCR) Periphery including districts close to the core, and lastly, the rest of the NCR region.
