In 2021, around 80 percent of China's writing instruments were sold in brick-and-mortar stores, while online channels contributed to about 20 percent of the sales. That year, specialty stores were the most prominent channel for the retail sales of writing instruments in China, taking up about 38 percent of the total sales.
