Estimated active users of Temu in the U.S. 2022-2023

Estimations revealed that in the United States, Pinduoduo's e-commerce company, Temu, has gained over 100 million active users as of April 2023. This is a massive increase compared to October in the previous year, where Temu was estimated to have just under six million active users in the country.

Temu’s rapid rise: dominating U.S. downloads

 In 2023, the Chinese marketplace Temu caught the attention of consumers in the U.S., being downloaded over 120 million times in the country, a significant difference between the second-most downloaed and direct competitor, Shein. In addition to the number of downloads, Temu had a 7-day retention rate of nearly 20 percent. These factors tie into the company’s rpid and widespread success. In May 2023, Temu generated around 635 million U.S. dollars in gross merchandise volume.

U.S. giants Walmart and Amazon lead fashion e-commerce

Even though the foreign marketplaces are growing in the United States, the top online stores when it comes to fashion were still U.S. companies. In 2023, walmart.com reached net sales of approximately 11 billion U.S. dollars, followed by amazon.com and the Chinese fast fashion marketplace Shein. Amazon and Walmart are big competitors in the U.S., both providing similar services such as subscriptions with various benefits.
