A 2022 survey analyzed public perceptions of pay discrepancies between male and female athletes in the United States. While survey respondents believed that female basketball players earned a bit more than a third of what their male counterparts were earning, in reality the difference was much larger, with women typically earning only one percent of men's salaries.
