In the Asia-Pacific region, Australia had the strongest response to modern slavery with an index score of 67 out of 100. The Philippines and Thailand followed behind. On the other hand, North Korea had the lowest score with minus 2.6, which was also the weakest response worldwide. North Korea is involved in state-imposed forced labor, modern slavery being a part of the state structure in the country.

The Global Slavery Index contains data on modern slavery in 160 countries. The government response index measures the national efforts in 176 countries to end modern slavery, looking at legal, policy, and programmatic dimensions. An index score with a maximum of 100 points (best possible response) is given based on 141 indicators.
