As of December 31, 2022, more than three-quarters of scope 1 and 2 emissions-reduction targets approved by the Science-Based Targets initiative (SBTi) limited warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels. Meanwhile, about 3.7 percent of SBTi-approved targets aligned with a 2 degrees Celsius warming pathway. That year, there were over 4,200 companies with approved science-based emission targets and commitments worldwide.
