Chiapas was by far the region with the highest installed hydropower capacity in Mexico as of the end of 2022. The state, located in the south east of Mexico, had a hydropower capacity of over 4.8 gigawatts. The state of Michoacán followed with almost 1.8 gigawatts of hydropower capacity.
