In 2022, the cumulative value of financing provided under property-assessed clean energy (PACE) programs in the United States has reached over 13.6 billion U.S. dollars. PACE is a mechanism that allows borrowing money for upgrades and renovation work that may reduce the environmental impact of commercial and residential buildings. These types of loans can be used for energy efficiency improvements, renewable energy installations, water conservation, make the buildings more resilient against extreme weather events and other damages. Since the creation of these programs, C-PACE financing (for commercial buildings) reached five billion U.S. dollars, while R-PACE financing (for residential buildings) reached eight billion U.S. dollars.
