In 2023, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Europe encountered 34 percent of detected significant ransomware attacks, down from 40 percent in the year prior. The offices of local authorities ranked second by the share of major ransomware incidents reported, with almost a quarter of ransomware cases targeting them in 2023. Meanwhile, the figures are not based on the overall number of ransomware attacks in the region.
