Production volume of furniture in China 2017-2023

As the world’s largest furniture producer, China produced around 1.15 billion pieces of furniture in 2023. This showcased a slight decrease from 1.19 billion pieces in the previous year.

Metal furniture production in China

As a result of its high price efficiency and durability, metal furniture has become increasingly popular among Chinese consumers. This has also been reflected in production. In 2022, over 40 percent of the furniture produced in China was made of metal. Metal furniture production is unevenly distributed throughout the country, with East China producing most metal furniture. 

Wood furniture production in China

Benefiting from being one of the world’s leading timber and wood producers, China's wood furniture production thrives. Compared to metal and furniture made of other materials, wood furniture is more popular with young and middle-class consumers because of its natural charm and fashionability. Furthermore, wood is environmentally friendly, since it can be recycled and reused, which is another reason why Chinese consumers purchase wood furniture.
