In 2023, the Volkswagen Group's European fleet emitted approximately 119 grams of CO2 per kilometer. The same emission level was recorded in 2021, when the European Comission started to used the Worldwide Harmonized Light Vehicles Test Procedure. These emission levels are below the statutory target of 122 grams of CO2 per kilometer.

The European Commission changed the way it calculates CO₂ fleet emissions from NEDC (New European Driving Cycle) to WLTP (Worldwide Harmonized Light Vehicles Test Procedure) starting in 2021.
