Electricity sales to the transportation sector in the United States dropped during the COVID-19 pandemic and stood below seven terawatt-hours per year ever since. In 2022, the volume of electricity sold to railroads and railways in the country amounted to 6.6 terawatt-hours, down from a peak of 7.76 in 2014.
