In 2021, Canadian women earned an average of 0.73 Canadian dollars for every dollar earned by men, slightly under three quarters of the average annual employment income for men. The people among whom this ratio was least unequal were Canadians working in art, culture, recreation and sport (0.88). In contrast, women working in the field of natural resources, agriculture and related production occupations earned less than half of what men in the same field earned.

The source adds the following information: "The average gender pay ratio in employment income is the average annual employment income for females divided by the average annual employment income for males. The gender pay ratio can be interpreted as the proportion of a dollar that women earn for every dollar earned by men. Alternatively, the gender pay ratio can be subtracted from one and then multiplied by 100, such that it represents how much less women earn than men in percentage terms."
