EU military investment by country 2022

Investments in military defense increased greatly since 2014, as European Union member states sought to bolster their militaries in the wake of the reemergence of Russia as a geopolitical threat following that country's illegal annexation of Crimea from Ukraine, as well as the generally unstable global geopolitical climate. In particular, Germany, Italy, Poland, and the Netherlands boosted their spending compared to the early 2010s, when they had cut back on public spending due to the Great Recession and Eurozone crisis. France has consistently been the country in the EU which invests the most in its military, reaching a high of over 14.2 billion Euros in 2021.
