Cargo bikes, which allow riders to carry heavier loads including transporting children, are playing an increasing role in the German bicycle market. Particularly cargo bike with electric assist are increasingly popular, with 189,000 units sold in 2023. While e-cargo bikes made up around 65 percent of cargo bikes sold in 2018, their market share had risen to 80 percent by 2023.
