In Portugal, in 2023, 71 percent of flexitarians and of those who do not consume meat indicated that preventing health problems was one reason for their diet, while 56 percent of omnivores stated the same. While the respect for animals was the main reason behind the diet of those who do not consume meat, both flexitarians and omnivores stated this reason for their diets at a share of 44 percent.
