Following the 2022 legislative elections, workers and employees represented less than six percent of elected deputies, even though these socio-professional categories account for almost half of the working population. These categories accounted for just under 19 percent of deputies during the first legislature of the Fourth Republic (1946-1951), their highest representation to date and since the creation of the National Assembly. This was mainly due to the Communist Party's score in the immediate post-war period. Thereafter, their representation has steadily declined, though increasing again slightly in 2022.
