According to a survey conducted in July 2022, habit was a major reason for using IC credit cards among consumers in Japan. Almost 49 percent of respondents intended to use IC credit cards because they were available to use and they had become accustomed to using them. Other main reasons for using credit cards were reward points and the smooth payment process at stores. A smooth in-store checkout was the leading reason for wanting to use the tap to pay function of credit cards.
