In 2022, more than a thousand websites across India were blocked by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MEITY). Comparatively, in the same year, orders to block websites issued by courts in India tallied over nine hundred websites across the country. One of the reasons provided for the orders was the enhancement of cybersecurity. The overall number of websites blocked between 2015 and 2022 in the South Asian democracy amounted to 55,580.
