A consumer survey conducted in May 2023 discovered that unethical corporate behaviors and criticisms of Chinese government were the most cited reasons for boycotting a foreign brand, with a third of Chinese respondents confirming so. A lack of local presence was another important factor in making a boycott decision, as three in ten respondents preferred to shop with companies and brands based in China.
