Between 2011 and 2014, Belgium's number of Natura 2000 sites amounted to 457. In 2015, the number of Natura 2000 sites in the European country dropped to 301, figure that has remained unchanged until 2021. Natura 2000 is a network of breeding and resting sites for rare and endangered species – as well as some protected natural habitats – that stretches across all EU member states.
