A Chinese survey conducted in 2022 concluded that work-related burnout was positively associated with the risk of depression. Among the 6,859 respondents, more than 40 percent who had severe work-related burnouts were susceptible to developing the disease, while less than one in 50 who were enjoying their work was deemed at risk of depression.

42.5 percent of the respondents were male, while 57.5 percent were female. The average age of the respondents was 36.0 years. 66.6 percent of all respondents lived in urban areas. 47 percent of all respondents were residents in the eastern region, while residents from the central, western, and northeastern regions accounted for 24.4 percent, 23.9 percent, and 4.7 percent respectively.
