A survey conducted in 2022 concluded that almost a quarter of Chinese individuals outside of relationships were at higher risk of developing depression. In comparison, less than six percent of married people, and less than 12 percent of people who were divorced were susceptible to the condition.
Prevalence of depression risk among the Chinese population in 2022, by marital status
42.5 percent of the respondents were male, while 57.5 percent were female. The average age of the respondents was 36.0 years. 66.6 percent of all respondents lived in urban areas. 47 percent of all respondents were residents in the eastern region, while residents from the central, western, and northeastern regions accounted for 24.4 percent, 23.9 percent, and 4.7 percent respectively.
