The share of operating funds of public transport operators in the United States generated from passenger fares dropped to under 12 percent in 2021, the second year of the COVID-19 pandemic. Previously, passenger fares had accounted for around or above 30 percent of available operating funds but had already been declining slightly before the pandemic.
