A 2021 survey found that around 10.5 percent of U.S. high school students had participated in binge drinking in the 30 days prior to the survey. Rates were highest among Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander students, as well as white students. The rates were lowest for Asian and Black students. The source defines binge drinking as four or more drinks of alcohol in a row if they are female or five or more drinks of alcohol in a row if they are male, within a couple of hours.

The survey was conducted at all regular public and private schools with students in at least one of grades 9–12 in the 50 states and the District of Columbia.
According to the source: "Four or more drinks of alcohol in a row (if they were female) or five or more drinks of alcohol in a row (if they were male), within a couple of hours, on at least 1 day during the 30 days before the survey."
