In 2021, Nigeria produced approximately 63 million metric tons of cassava. This was followed by the Democratic Republic of Congo with a production volume of around 46 million metric tons. Cassava is a staple food in many tropical countries but is also used in the production of ethanol, alcohol, medicines, animal feed, chemicals, and more.
